Boning up on those wacky monks

A late start and a traditional breakfast of custard filled croissant and coffee(omitting the traditional cigarette). Then onto the Capuchin crypts. The Capuchins are a sub-order of Franciscan monks who when not developing holes in their hands and feet have a somewhat unnatural obsession with bones. It would seem some monk with a little too much time on his hand dug up a whole lot of dead monk's bones and having not much better to do and since Leggo had not been invented yet, decided to arrange these bones in pleasing patterns in various chapels. Try doing that today and you would be regarded as some sort of sick fuck and locked away!

Then it is off for a pleasant afternoon stroll in 32 degree heat to Testaccio to try out the latest fad in Roman fast food at Trappezino-this is a cone of bread which is cut  open and filled with various savoury fillings of one's choice-incredibly delicious.

We then wander to Volpetti, a very superior and serious delicatessen to stock up on proscuitto, cheese and truffles for our arduous and gruelling train trip tomorrow.

The last of our trifecta foodie tour is to stop off at The Claudio Torce Gelateria where we sample amazing flavours including gorgonzola.
